The beginning of our story still carries us; at first we drove around the narrow streets of the village of Pietarsaari in a small car. The back container was full of fresh salad from local farmers and bright red tomatoes ripened by the summer sun. The vegetables were delivered directly to the door, so it was a real service business even then. The business grew surprisingly quickly and soon we were a trusted supplier to the restaurant and hotel industry and managed to bring light and quick lunch options to store shelves. The business grew in a few decades. The small vegetable wholesale team that was born in the 1970s had grown into a large, warm and close-knit family, where all members were motivated by one and the same thing: Always Something New – Always Something Good.
Always Something New
The company’s English name was rare in Ostrobothnia in the 90s and shows that we wanted to be a pioneer even back then. Fresh Servant communicates freshness and genuinely enthusiastic and service-oriented operations. Now we say Fresh in a concise way and in the 21st century we have gained attention as a salad manufacturer, as there has been a need for innovations on store shelves that support well-being and convenience. Fresh will continue to be a guarantee of quality for fresh, clean and healthy food made in Finland.
Our operations have long been guided by our goal of being our customers’ number one choice. We launched the Hetki brand in 2010 because we saw the moment had come. The offer lacked a ready-made Finnish salad for Finns, for lunch or for any other occasion. Listening to the customer, changing the flavors, improving the packaging moment by moment, we spread throughout Finland, from north to south. Undaunted by our efforts and bold experimentation, we have sometimes also led to failures, but our amazing team has always continued with renewed enthusiasm and together we have finally succeeded.
Following the same guidelines, we launched SalaattiMestari in 2015, which made all of our customers salad picking masters. The self-service salad bar always offers genuine ingredients that have been washed, peeled and chopped by us. In addition, we have developed hundreds of salad, pasta, meal and dessert products. Our goal has been to offer new products that increase well-being and convenience.
There is always something new happening in our operations for us at Fresh. In 2012, we moved to a brand new salad factory, which was already then and still is the most modern and best salad factory in Finland. New products, new materials, new equipment, new facilities, new people. Every day is an opportunity for us to do something new, to succeed together. We didn’t always know how things would have been best done. That’s when we set out to find out, for example by getting to know European markets and factories. Eventually, developments took us into a new era of automation and digitalization. Although systems and equipment help us, people are what make things happen. More than 400 Fresh employees have already made the digital leap.
At Fresh, we believe that delivering goodness revolves around three key principles: exceptional taste, promoting well-being, and ensuring top-notch quality. Great flavor is rooted in variety, as we all have unique preferences. For some, a delightful meal may include olives, halloumi, and falafel, while others might savor salmon or mozzarella. We create unexpectedly delightful taste experiences by skillfully blending pure, high-quality ingredients that complement one another beautifully.
Always Something Good
When offering our customers Good, we are guided by three perspectives: the product must taste good, support well-being, and be of high quality. Good taste means, first of all, that there must be many options, because our taste preferences are different. For one person, olives, halloumi and falafel are a feast, while another loves salmon or mozzarella cheese. Surprisingly joyful taste experiences are created from clear, high-quality ingredients, which we have managed to combine in a complementary way.
We look at well-being from many different perspectives. We study nutritional recommendations; how we can help people in their everyday lives. Our products make it easier to eat the recommended amount of 500g of vegetables a day and get the proteins and good fats they need. Well-being is also increased by the fact that people have time to spend together and do hobbies, without having to compromise on healthy nutrition. In everyday life, we often have to grab something to eat outside the home, and our selection has good options for everyone.
High quality is clean, fresh and whenever possible due to the harvest season, Finnish. The quality is guaranteed by our own production: the salads do not come to us chopped from across the border, but we wash and chop them ourselves. We also supply local schools and hospitals with domestic potatoes, apples and other Hevi products.
New flavors are sought from local food in Finland and especially Ostrobothnia, but also from trendy restaurants around the world. Sometimes we are inspired by local sea and field landscapes, sometimes by the pulse of a big city or spice experiences. A curious mind, sensitive ears and agile experimentation help us to always bring Finns something new and always something good together with the shops.
The number of our freshmen has grown significantly over the years, and we have been able to employ around 50 new employees on a permanent basis every year for the past six years. We now come from over twenty countries.
We still have the desire of a small Ostrobothnian company to help our customers by offering products that taste good, look good and arrive as agreed. Our responsibility is to promise what we do and do what we promise. Without satisfied customers, there are no satisfied Fresh employees. Together, by always learning something new and doing good, we make things happen.

Another value of ours is an Inspiring atmosphere. Inspiration for us is the willingness to see and learn something new every day. Inspirational atmosphere gives or work a meaningful positive and future-orientated feel. When we have the right mindset, we can make brave moves and try new things, that improve our products and ways of doing things. We reach our limits and brake them. Inspiration comes from conversations, showing example, recognition and helping each other.

Our third core value is Succeeding together. We at Fresh are constantly dependent on one another; Without everybody’s input we could not succeed. Success is done in different ways, at different levels and happens in all sizes. Success can be measured, for example, by project schedule, goal achievement or customer satisfaction. It is also a success that we learn new things together; enjoy our work and we can work together to develop ourselves and our work community.
